Midwifery Needs a Community Behind It
Midwifery matters—not only to the families who choose it, but to communities across Texas. If you believe in safe, informed, family-centered maternity care and the important role Licensed Midwives play in our state, there is a place for you in this work.
You don’t have to be a midwife or a current consumer of midwifery care to get involved. Whether you have experienced midwifery firsthand, supported a loved one, work alongside midwives, or simply believe Texans should have access to informed birth choices, your voice and support can make a difference.
There are many ways to stand alongside Texas midwives and help raise awareness about the role they play in caring for mothers, babies, and families. From contacting your elected officials to sharing information, staying informed, and supporting the work of Texas Community Midwives, every action helps strengthen the conversation around midwifery in Texas.
How Can You Help?
-
Consider reaching out to Attorney General Ken Paxton and sharing your personal experience with birth and maternity care. If you have experienced midwifery care, share how it impacted you and your family and why access to Licensed Midwives matters to Texans.
You can also ask the Attorney General’s office to support fair and consistent treatment of midwives and to ensure that Licensed Midwives are treated with the same fairness and respect afforded to other licensed healthcare professionals in Texas.

Your state representative needs to hear from the people in their community. Call or write your Texas State Representative and share why birth choice, access to maternity care, and midwifery are important to you and your community.
-
You can respectfully share your experiences with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), particularly if you have had a positive experience with a Licensed Midwife.
Let TDLR leadership know why fair, consistent, and unbiased oversight of Licensed Midwives matters to you and to families across Texas.
