Inna Matveyuk, CPM, LM
Inna’s journey into midwifery was shaped by her own powerful experiences on both sides of care. After being supported by incredible midwives during one of her births and then walking through a very different hospital experience, she saw firsthand the kind of presence and care she longed for. That contrast stayed with her, and it became part of what led her into this work. Today, as the heart behind The Praying Midwife, she brings that same intentional, faith-filled care to the families she serves.
What Inna loves most about midwifery is the beauty of how no two births are ever the same. Each one unfolds in its own way, unpredictable, unique, and full of moments that can’t be scripted. It’s that very mystery that draws her in and keeps her grounded in the work. She especially loves seeing the gratitude from families as they begin to understand just how meaningful and important midwifery care truly is.
One moment that has stayed close to her heart is from her own second birth. In the quiet of those first moments postpartum, she was surrounded by midwives who began singing “Bless the Lord, O My Soul” in three-part harmony. It was peaceful, sacred, and deeply moving, a stark contrast to the chaos she had experienced in a hospital setting. That memory continues to shape the kind of space she hopes to create for the women she serves.
Inna continues to grow in her practice through continuing education, podcasts, peer reviews, and most importantly, by seeking wisdom from the Lord. She shares that one of her greatest strengths as a midwife is the power of prayer, something she leans on daily as she cares for mothers and babies.
Outside of birth work, you’ll likely find Inna taking long walks to recharge or spending time with those closest to her. She shares that her husband has been her steady support throughout this journey, along with her dear friend and fellow midwife, Gail Wooster, who has walked alongside her through both the highs and the lows with constant encouragement.
Originally from Ukraine, Inna was born and raised there and is fluent in three languages, a beautiful reflection of the depth and richness she brings into every space she enters. And if she weren’t serving families as a midwife, she’d likely be behind the lens as a photographer, capturing meaningful moments in another way.
Her heart for birth is simple and grounding: “Just how your body knows how to breathe, it knows how to birth your baby.” And of course, like many of us, she’s fueled by a good cup of coffee along the way
